Why opt for at-home charging?

Ultimate convenience

No more worrying about queues at the service station or waiting to find parking next to the neighbourhood’s EV charging point. Home charge points mean you can build a charging timetable that’s shaped around your schedule – rather than the other way around.

Prolong battery life

Studies have shown that the best way to protect your electric vehicle’s lifespan is to charge it according to the manufacturer’s specifications. With Pro EV’s wide selection of chargers, you will be able to choose the right one for your car and charge it up perfectly.

Start saving money

As an EV owner, you no doubt already notice the savings in your pocket as compared to dealing with ever fluctuating fuel prices. However, you can unlock even more value from your EV by charging up at home.

Add value to your home

Electric car ownership is on the rise in the UK, and continued government programmes such as the EV charger grant will only incentivise more drivers to make the switch.

Why Choose a 7kW Home Charger?

A 7kW charge point offers great performance, delivering up to 30 miles of range per hour, much faster and more reliable than with a standard 3-pin plug. With integral intelligent charging capability, you can customise schedules to off-peak tariff prices, connect via Wi-Fi to be controlled remotely, and even connect solar panels to greenify charging. Best of all, the chargers have been future-proofed so that they become compatible with most of today’s electric vehicles, and ready to charge vehicles of the future.

What are the different types of electric car charging points?

There are a number of options available when it comes to charging an electric car at home. While the difference between tethered and untethered cables may be fairly self-explanatory, choosing which type is right for you is an important decision.

Tethered

Tethered chargers have a charging cable attached that you plug into your vehicle. Tethered chargers are usually more convenient but more expensive.

Untethered

Untethered chargers depend on a cable that plugs into the charge point at one end and the car at the other. They can be a hassle, but offer a bit more flexibility and can look neater.

Public EV Charge Points vs Charging at Home

When on long trips, public charging will be necessary but, nothing beats the ease and affordability of a home charger. A 7kW EV charger allows you to accumulate between 30 miles of range per hour, so the majority of vehicles will be topped up overnight within 6–8 hours. In comparison, using a public rapid charger can take 30–60 minutes to reach an 80% state of charge, but queues, waits, and increased costs usually follow.

The average home charging rate on a standard tariff is typically 30p per unit of kWh, which translates to an average of £12–£15 per full home charge (equivalent to 200–250 miles of range). Charging the same vehicle with a public rapid charger may cost £25–£35, more than twice as much. With smart charging modes and off-peak rates, home charging can be made cheaper by as much as £5–£7 per full home charge in some cases.

With Pro EV, you’re always on, no lines, no delay, and full control of the cost of charging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most EVs can reach a full charge in around 6–8 hours, perfect for overnight charging.

Yes, Wi-Fi enables remote monitoring, tariff scheduling, and app control.

Absolutely. Your home charger is for daily convenience, but public charge points are there for longer trips.

Yes , a 7kW home charger is the most popular and practical choice for UK households. It’s around three times faster than charging from a 3-pin plug, adding roughly 30 miles of range per hour. For most drivers, this means you can charge your electric car fully overnight, making it the ideal balance of speed, efficiency, and affordability. Unless you have three-phase power and need ultra-fast charging, a 7kW charger is more than good enough for daily use.

The running cost of a 7kW EV charger depends on your electricity tariff. On a standard UK rate of about 30p per kWh, charging for one hour costs around £2.10 and adds ~30 miles of range. If you use a smart tariff (e.g., night-time rates as low as 10p per kWh), that drops to just 70p per hour. Pairing your charger with smart charging features or solar panels can make charging your car at home even cheaper.
